Nice b&b, but needs some updates

An old house in the middle of nowhere, with not much to see or do around there. There was a harmless bug on the ceiling (I killed it). The breakfast was ok. There was coke in the fridge. The toilet tank was leaking endlessly unless you carefully pulled the lever up after flushing. The bed was clean. The armchairs, oh boy, were not. The owner was a nice guy, but the building looked abandoned from the outside, and kind of creepy. The decoration theme was dragonflies. There is a swimming pool in the back, I saw it from a distance... I didn't get near it.

The Appalachian Trail crosses the road about 2 miles from the inn, and a number of farms and produce stores are along the road. I ate two dinners at Smokey's Tavern, about four miles down the road into NJ. Very good.

Great B&B! Excellent hospitality and amazing breakfast.

Cider Mill Inn is a very pleasant B&B in a renovated 1868 farm house in upstate New York, just across the border from Vernon, NJ. It has 3 upstairs guest rooms. The one I stayed in, the Braeburn, was a comfortable bedroom for 1-2 persons. Window unit a/c kept the room nice and cool, as did the overhead fan. One set of windows looked out onto the front yard, state road 517 and the fields beyond, the other onto the wide lawn. Queen-sized bed, two arm chairs, a dresser and bedside lamp tables, plus WiFi and flatscreen TV. A small bathroom with a shower rounded out the room. A minifridge in the hall stocked water and sodas. Downstairs was a larger living room area where more people could get together.

The innkeeper, Bob, was most congenial. I was able to stay for one breakfast: pleasantly arranged fresh fruit, scones and a muffin. They can also do poached pears, french toast, and other breakfasts on request. The dining room looked to seat 8-10 comfortably and had a Keurig coffeemaker with coffee and tea cups stocked.

All in all, a nice rustic bed and breakfast with a friendly attentive host.

Wonderful place to stay and fantasticbreakfast!
